ASUSTeK Computer Incorporated or ASUS (as we commonly call the company) will be in SM City Cebu starting today, May 14, up to May 27, 2009 to hold an event called Ultimate PC Fair 09 in the Atrium near Kameraworld. On May 23, 2009, Saturday, there will be an Overclocking Show which is actually a contest to be held at around 3PM in the Entertainment Plaza near the Food Court.

Calling all the geeks and geekazoids alike to come, watch and enjoy the show. Those with techy skills may join the contest and who knows, an Asus laptop may be given. So if you know what overclocking is and how to do it on the computer system (hence, geekazoids are much appreciated to attend), come on the mentioned date and time above and release your computer powers.

I, however, would just watch it. We were never taught overclocking in our school. Overclocking is (according to Wikipedia)

the process of running a computer component at a higher clock rate (more clock cycles per second) than it was designed for or was specified by the manufacturer, usually practiced by personal computer enthusiasts seeking an increase in the performance of their computers. Source

I have read about doing overclocking but I guess I have less time to learn it. The overclocking competition would be next week. I’d just give way to others who need the Asus laptop.

By the way, the Cebu Bloggers Society is invited to cover the event. We are more than willing to do so. After the event, the Asus team will meet everyone over at Bigby’s for dinner and for a small talk (questions, comments, and more questions).

Again, if you can drop by SM City Cebu on the said date and time, we would be more than happy to see you.

Last Friday, May 8, I flew to Manila so I could attend iBlog5: The 5th Philippine Blogging Summit which was on May 9 at UP Diliman. Thankfully, Bagyong Emong already went out in time for my flight. Kevin and I met in NAIA so we could together go to Vanjohnn’s whereabouts. We went to SM Megamall since Van is there with his friends. A long walk towards the condo after.

Eric fetched us (like kids) so we could go together to UP Diliman. We were there on time and we get to have their freebies. Weee. Cebu Bloggers Society‘s (including me) wearing of their official shirt (thanks Van for the shirt) attracted the organizers attention so we were first in introducing ourselves to the early crowd. We were followed by more interesting bloggers.

X, Bryan, Aileen, Agnes and Benror

L-R: Jorich, Kevin, Bryan, X, Aileen, Agnes and Van
The first topic was Blogging 101 by Mica (idol) and AJ (my new friends, wee!). It was followed by Photo Blogging 101 by Faith (Rarr, go purple team!) and Fritz. We then had our break and I forgot what happened during the break. Video Blogging 101, one of the most interesting talks because of Kring’s humor, by Azrael and Kring followed. Mobile Blogging 101 by Ka Edong was next. The Do’s and Don’ts of Blogging, the controversial talk, was by Benj and Juned. The last talk before lunch was by Master Winston and Coy, Blog Promotion & Traffic Generation Strategies 101. Then lunchtime!

I took my lunch with the other CBS members. After the meal, we walked from Malcolm Hall to the place of the oblation. I did not let go of the opportunity of seeing the UPD oblation. It was different compared to our own oblation back here. The walk was long but it was fun. UPD is so green. As green as your mind.

We took a jeepney back to Malcolm Hall since we knew we were already late then for the afternoon session. Atty. Disini talked about the Legal Issues of Blogging while Ms. Janette talked about Preparing Bloggers for the 2010 Elections. Unfortunately, I only heard Mannix Palaban for Blog Advertising Situation in the Philippines because I went out after his talk. One of my weaknesses is too much aircon (side by side with sleepiness) so I decided to go out and do nothing. I stayed in front of the soccer field for about an hour and a half, doing nothing. I went back inside after the break to hear the last talk, Blogging to the Next Level by Fitz and Anton Diaz. I have learned so much from Mr. Diaz’s talk. That ends the iBlog5 event but the day did not end there.

Together with new and great friends from Manila namely, Hannah, Mica, Winston and Ada, we (Van and I) went to Kenny Rogers to dine. We met with other bloggers there like Jehzlau and sorry I forgot the rest. Oops. We then had a small conversation and a handful of jokes. Katips Bar was next where the other CBS members were happily gulping beer. We had fun picture taking (CBS plus Winston) in the place before we went out to go home. That’s what I thought. Mica, Winston and Hannah were to spend a little more time in Van’s place. We then had few small talks and played 1-2-3-pass where I NEVER LOST . I learned a lot about them. They are absolutely cool people.

They went home around 1:30 in the morning and everyone had to have their short sleep for the Enchanted Kingdom event. EK post will follow soon.

iBlog5 was a great event. It was successful and I am absolutely sure each one of us who attended have learned something relevant to our blogging lives. But what made the day complete is that I get to meet a lot of new friends in a day. I met the best bloggers in the Philippines and made friends with them.

Again, thanks Ada, Mica, Hannah, Winston and Vanjohnn for the fun times! I can’t contain the happiness! Wee. More friends at the EK event!

Again thank you and see you soon.

Thanks to Vanjohnn for most of the pictures.

The other night when I had a small chitchat with The Photoblogger, we suddenly reached a topic about the TV shows that we used to watch when we were kids. Suddenly, Courage the Cowardly Dog (from Cartoon Network), got into my head. I then thought why not recall all the TV programs I used to watch when I was a kid. I know it would be a very long post so I limited it only [at first] with Nickelodeon shows. Thank God for cable TV, Nick came.

I also would share something I read (in Youtube I think) about today’s kids’ programs and movies. Well actually that was a comment for the Hannah Montana movie and the commenter hates the movie and the actress. She said, the kids’ programs before (like The Adventures of Pete and Pete in Nickelodeon) were the real kids’ TV programs rather than a superstar-turning-into-a-cowgirl-a-k-a-Hannah-Montana. No offense. I have nothing against the movie nor the actress.

So here goes the trip to the kiddy lane list:

1. The Adventures of Pete and Pete

Two kids. Two zany kids living in a small funny town. Well that’s all I could remember. And I know I loved that show. Why? Because I was also a stupid kid. Well, until now maybe.

2. All That

This is my all time favorite kids reality TV show. This is the real kids show! They happen to reach the year 2005 though I probably stopped watching it years before that. But still, it was a great kids show. Even the reruns are not boring. This is where the likes of Amanda Bynes (she is really funny actually even before she started going out in movies) started. Kenan and Kel were my sister and I’s much remembered pair and we named two dogs after them. The latest seasons, I haven’t watched them too much, but I think I have reached the time where Britney’s sis came in. She’s not good. All That always ends with a singer performing. And that was one of the good parts.

3. The Amanda Show

I tell you, Amanda Bynes is really a very good and natural comedienne. I’ve seen her start and I’ve seen her in Hairspray. Haha.

4. Are You Afraid Of The Dark

One of the best! Very imaginative stories at hand. And they’re scary too. And there’s still a picture in my mind that I could remember. It was about kids stuck in nowhere where monsters (no not the kiddy monsters but real ones) are to get them one by one. Well, it was cool.

5. CatDog

This is funny! They’re hilarious and abnormal (obviously) and plain stupid. They’re for those who just want to watch a silly movie and laugh their hearts off.

6. Figure It Out

A reality show for everyone including Nick stars. This is fun and educational. It is also fun figuring out the phrases. All I could remember is… *sings* Figure it out! Figure it out! Figure it out! Figure it out! Figure it ooooooooooout!

7. GUTS

Love sports? GUTS is for you! I have always wanted to join that game if given the chance. Running around, catching balls, climbing the icy mountain (?), breaking brick walls using the stout bike, swimming, anything! There are lots of challenges and the kid in me then wanted to try them all out. Well until now actually.

8. Hey Arnold!

That football-headed kid. And her love, the big-mouthed Helga (comparable to Rugrat’s Angelica). I love the story lines. And the funny-shaped characters gave it a distinct touch. This is making me miss my childhood. Sigh.

9. Kenan & Kel

Yeah, aside from being in All That, Kenan and Kel got their own funny show! Two brothers who are always on the lookout for a good laugh.

10. Legends of the Hidden Temple

Just like GUTS, I badly wanted to join Legends of the Hidden Temple! When I was a kid, I really love physical challenge. I love the challenges like crossing of the pool, the brainy quiz and last but not the least The Temple Run! Sigh, I just wish I could try the challenge even now. I love puzzles and action puzzles and adventures and all sort. I miss this show.

11. Rugrats

Waaaa! The Rugrats is really very baby-ish but it is very funny and weird! And cool. The older generation wasn’t that good though.

12. The Wild Thornberrys

Another show where the characters’ faces and bodies are out out shape. Eliza looks weird. But the show is really educational. And adventurous and exciting and hyper and stupid. I love stupid kiddy shows.

13. The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius

Here’s one little genius guy which I think we all know of. And that robotic dog is robotic. Heeeh. I haven’t seen the movie though. The TV series in itself was good enough. I learned what a llama is in this show.

14. The Fairly OddParents

A kid with odd godparents who are fairies. One is stupid and one is a bit less of a stupid. Haha, again this show is not only stupid but also educational and moral.

15. SpongeBob Squarepants

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Spongebob Squarepants!

Who does not know Spongebob? We all know this pornographic sponge! Kidding. HAHA. Spongebob is really fun. It would drain all your brain cells but it will teach you a very important lesson about life and friendship if you also know how to analyze his stupid acts.

So what’s the big deal in recalling all these? Nothing. I just want to recall my childhood TV days. Of course I wasn’t rooted to the TV all the time. I also had my share of running around, playing kite, playing traditional Filipino games, <strike>bullying other kids</strike> and a lot more. But if I am to stay at home, I watch these shows. I also watch a lot of Cartoon Network and Power Rangers and their variants which I will post sometime later too.

Did you have the same childhood too? Or were your drowning yourself with the brickgame thing? Yeeha!

Heroes Season 3 Chapter 4 has just ended. Another season ends. A new one awaits. The last episode for the third season of Heroes entitled Invisible Thread is not really extraordinary, but the happenings are blood-gushing. As usual, season finales will always be suspended in mid-air, making the audience want for the next season as soon as possible.

Danko was framed up by Sylar. Noah is caught again. Hiro Nakamura’s powers are eating his soul. Ando acts as a true friend. Suresh is, uhm, he is the narrator, so he is alive. Nathan Petrelli dies in Sylar’s hands, not on the head but on the neck. And that was one of the most horrifying scenes I’ve seen in Heroes. Blood gushing from Nathan’s neck like a sink over-flowing. Gross. Nathan Petrelli ressurects in the body of Sylar. So Sylar is dead trapped in Nathan’s soul as Matt Parkman commands it. The Company built and destroyed before is back again with the president’s consent. And lastly, the thing I most expected, Tracy Strauss is alive and I have a doubt she’ll be the new antagonist in the next season. The next chapter is entitled “Redemption“. As to why that is the title, I really don’t know. We just were given a sneak preview of what’s gonna happen and its Tracy taking down the Building 26 agents one by one and the new “Nathan” slowly showing hints of being Sylar. [Images]

The image is actually not related. But hey, it’s cool! Source
I have been so loyal to Heroes since their first episode. And I doubt I could remember everything. All I know is the story is great, not really beyond compare, but just great. Something that would lift me up away from the biting reality and take me to a place where gravity is not sacred. I am quite excited for the next season.

As for the invisible thread, we are all connected by an invisible thread just like the characters in Heroes are. And that thread is fragile, so they say. I’m just glad I’m part of a growing spool. Hot hot summer everyone!

Today is one of the hottest days in summer. It is not only the sun but also the wide blackout that affected not only households but also the mall. Today’s lunch was scheduled as the lunch out (unofficial event) for the Cebu Bloggers Society members who are willing, free and available today at Max’s Restaurant in SM Cebu.

I arrived earlier than the agreed time but only found out then that I was being secretly tagged along by Kai. So it was the two of us until Attorney Ethelbert came. But we did not go idle and wait for the others. Together with Wil, we went to Cyberzone to check out the rumored iPhone plan in Sun Cellular only to find out Atty. was hoaxed. Haha. We went back to Max’s when Vanjohnn texted me that he’s there already. We then saw Agnes. We already were seated when Kai fetched Mikyu and then Jessa, Mikyu’s rich friend, also arrived. Clado arrived later. Eating time. And then Prince arrived the latest.

Vanjohnn crying and Mikyu and Jessa laughing at Vanjohnn. Kidding. HAHA.

Prince Ryan’s food.

After the sumptuous meal, of course, we paid. Anyways, I felt like I have eaten more than what I paid. But the meal at Max’s Restaurant was great, though not special. After the meal, we went out and got confused as to where to go next.

Candid photo of everyone talking.

Cebu Bloggers Society family!

After choosing between The Terraces and IT Park, we chose IT Park, Starbucks to be specific. We need a cold place. We then divided ourselves for the taxi ride and luckily, Kai and I got a treat from Atty. again. And again. And again. We reached (the three of us) Starbucks first and Atty. ordered I-don’t-know-what-drink-was-that and a serving of a surprising blueberry cheesecake. The others arrived and the long talks began. It really was a long talk. Add controversial, interesting, secretive, mysterious and pure fun.

The coffee bean in my hand and the blueberry cheesecake to drool for.

My first time at Starbucks! Yes.

L-R: Jessa, Atty., Mikyu, Bryan, Kai, Jorich; outside Starbucks.

I really had the time of my life again with CBS. This is where interesting minds meet. Atty. has a future for talk show hosting and antagonist evil laugh-er. We, the others, have a future for being guests. Yay. Til next time friends.

Before this post ends, I give you the new Starbucks model:

We’re owning! Okay, sorry for the DOTA association with Cebu Bloggers Society. I am just a bit restless now thinking that in an hour plus, I would get to try DOTA again after 3 years. Anyways, yesterday until this morning was Cebu Bloggers Society’s camp out in Vanjohnn‘s home in Jardin de Busay, Cebu City. Right now my mind is still around 25% clogged and dreamy because of the sudden drift in my bio clock mechanisms. In simple terms, we did not sleep the normal sleep last night. But no regrets. I had one of the best times in my life. Yay.

The pre-conversations in McDonald’s with Mark, McBilly, Mikyu-Jorich-Kai-Clado team, VJ and Atty Ethelbert was already an appetizer itself. Vanjohnn’s home is our food for the eyes. And we have human food too which we feasted on after some activities. Anyways, the GTKY was a classic, the games (taboo, charade, cup tower, and that can game) were great [in which the best team was the Papalicious team], the intelligent talks in between were educational, the green jokes were green as usual and everybody seems to be enjoying. I think. Other fun activities included the videoke session (duet actually for me, go us Kai!) and the pool work out. And lastly, the music jamming and the knocking out one by one of everybody (except three people who never had plans to stop talking). The morning walk made us sweat and energized (?). Perhaps. We all then went home all bringing home good memories [aside from our wet clothes in some stray plastic].

I don’t intend this post to be long. I just want this to become a reminder to me someday that such good event happened. Chronicler is the fitting term. Thankfully, I have already grown up in and outside of the boundaries of this growing group. Getting part in a group like CBS is something a person shouldn’t miss out. Til the next activity guys!

Update: And just like Mikyu-mao-sama, I will list all the members who were in the historic and esoteric camp out. Evanjohnn, Jorich, Bryan (that’s me), Mikyu, Kai, Clarence, Tianexx, Aldwin, Empress, Mark, Miong, Ryan, Timoy, McBilly, and Atty. Trailer shock happens when you watch a trailer and your eyes stare at the screen and your heart skips beating because of excitement. I have experienced this when I watched Harry Potter HBP’s and Transformers’ trailers. I know the Harry Potter movie would be again so corrupted compared to the book (just like the rest of the Harry Potter movies) but the hell I care, I would still enjoy it, I know. And Transformers is just way cool and electrifying and nerve-wracking. I have watched the previous ones (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix/Transformers) in the cinemas and I have enjoyed every bit of it (less bit of HP since I was disturbed of their not following the book). This time, I am again planning to watch it in the big screen. But that would be months from now. For now, let us just savor every second of the trailers. Yay! Trailers after the jump.

And this time, still for free! Yes, free. The Cebu Bloggers Society is invited to a summer blowout at the Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort this coming May. Seems like my May schedule is a bit packed now. After the Manila-escapade week for the iBlog5 and the EK event, I will be in this event again (hopefully, please) at the heaty heaty beach! Even though I despise me getting [more] tanned. Yikes.

And this is not my first time in the resort. When I was 11 years old (that young, 8 years ago), my family also went to Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort for free, sponsored by Timex, my godmother’s company then. Of course, memories now are a bit blurry as that was almost a decade ago, but all I could remember is the huge pool, the white sand beach and the sharks! Rawr.

Probably, this will be my most memorable summer by far. I am working and I am traveling and I am beaching! Nyayaya. And somebody is there to help me think of my Special Problem for the last semester! God is so good, all the time.

Enjoy your summers everyone! One at a time.

For more information, visit the Maribago Bluewater Blog. Visit PINOYWORLD for more info on the invitation.

Happy Easter to all! Black to blue, the world has turned solemn to busy. The Holy Week is over. The customs and beliefs all now go back to the deep. The working life, the boring summer, the endless heat are all back.

What did I do with my Holy Week? I admit, this is the most unholy Holy Week that I had. Maundy Thursday was quite a surprise. Yays, not that unholy though. We prayed the rosary at the Rosary Center of St. Benedict’s Monastery in Carmen, had some reflection in their chapel. But afterward was quite unnecessary and wrong timing: the beach.

L-R: Beach in Danao City, My cousins

I am sorry that I forgot the “shoulds” and “should nots” of each day of the Holy Week. I was primary schooled in a Catholic school but that was long ago, so never mind. One person sort of scolded me for enjoying the beach that day. Pffbt, I just love the beach, any day, any time! My grandma even enjoyed our beach moment, and she’s religious. Anyways, that was it. Visita Iglesia, a family/clan tradition, is supposed to happen during the night but my mother got a severe headache so we weren’t able to proceed. Good Friday, nothing happened. I don’t know if something must happen on that day. Poor and sinful me. On Black Saturday, we went to Redemptorist Church to attend the mass for the baptism of fire and water also called Easter Vigil.

L-R: Dancing angels lighting each person’s candle, Jesus Christ has risen
We have been attending that Easter Vigil for three consecutive years already and this time, we secured a good seat since we arrived an hour before the mass. One word that I could describe the Easter Vigil: dramatic. Next year, try attending Redemptorist Church’s Easter Vigil. It is a mass with a hint of theater.

Today, Easter Sunday, we did not go to church. We did not attend the traditional Sugat or the meeting of Jesus Christ and Mother Mary. This is supposed to be a splendid celebration, heard of an angel being flown from the top to unveil the Blessed Mother. Well, I never experienced Sugat in my life. Maybe I’ll try it in the coming years.

That ends my unholy Holy Week. But it doesn’t mean I don’t give importance to this season. The only thing we probably did wrong is not to follow tradition which I think is unnecessary. I don’t want to rant about Kierkegaard and churchism here, but all I want to say is sincerity is better than following customs because they are customs.

Tomorrow, I’ll be back at work, solving internal and external tribulations, fighting myself not to fight myself. On Tuesday, I will have myself enrolled for my OJT. And on Saturday, well, the much awaited CBS campout. Yikes, too much excitement can kill the excitement! Woohoo!

How about everyone’s Holy Week? Was it holy, sad or nothing? Welcome back to our ordinary lives!

iBlog5: The 5th Philippine Blogging Summit

Am I already old enough that I am slowly reaching my dreams? A month from now, I will be in Manila, Diliman specifically, to attend the iBlog5. The iBlog5: The 5th Philippine Blogging Summit will be on May 9, 2009 (exactly a month from now) at the Malcolm Theater, UP College of Law, UP Diliman, from 8 am to 5 pm. Registration is free. All you need is a blog, what else? After the summit, there will be a sponsored after party! Ooh yeah.

I only heard of the Blogging Summit event this year. I did not know it has happened before. I am thankful I heard of it. It then got me thinking if I would attend or not given that I still have my OJT during that time. But I have decided, well I bought my tickets already, so there’s no turning back. I hope there would be many from CBS to attend the event. It would be really good for amateur bloggers like us to learn from the pros in the talks that would be given.

For more information, visit the official website. See the set of activities and talks here. Register for free here.

See you all at the iBlog5 Blogging Summit!

UP Diliman!

Phew, I can’t extinguish the excitement. I’ve been wanting to go to UP Diliman, which I consider our mother school, since last year because of the centennial celebration of our school. Our then plan to go there last December 2008 via Masbate-Bicol road trip didn’t push through because as usual, studies were demanding more attention. I never thought I could go there as early as 2009.

We from UP Cebu, though not all, are quite hungry at the prospect of going to UP Diliman. I am one of them. And going there next month is like a dream come true. Well of course at the expense of my savings. HAHA.

Manila, Yo!

And Manila. I know Cebu is still a better place to live in than Manila (except for the concerts), but I still wanted to see and feel how Manila runs. I’ve been to farther places but they always say Manila is exciting, so I better see. I just wanna try. The malls, the people, the sights, everything! So that when I go back to Cebu I would be filled with many many memories. And the amusement parks too! I think I could go to one! Rawr.

All of those are to happen within a month’s time. Yes, far from now, but I am too excited. Anyways, I still have so many things to accomplish before that to happen. I am doing poorly in adjusting to my workplace, which I admit. I am always poor in interacting with a new crowd. I need at least 5 days of meeting these people so I could get comfortable. Maybe this Monday I would greet each one of them “Good morning” and visit them on their respective stations. HAHA, kidding.

Anyways, I can’t wait for the adventure of my life to begin. Besides from traveling alone, I would be on my own in finding the place where I would stay. Thank you very to the nth power much Vanjohnn for “being so charitable” and for allowing me to stay at your place.

I can’t wait, really. To all iBlog5 participantes, see you there! Wee lotsa new faces to meet! Friends friends!
